Head of HR

Based: Luton
Salary: £26,665 – £33,000 (£50,000 FTE)
Hours: 20 – 25 hours per week (negotiable). Hybrid, with minimum 15 hours per week spent on-site at our Luton or Bedford offices

The role is to oversee and develop NOAH’s strategic people management, with overall responsibility for the HR function and people plan.

Main duties

  • To lead the development and delivery of the people plan
  • To ensure the structure and capabilities of the HR function and the design and resourcing of the wider workforce meet the needs and values of the Charity
  • To develop and oversee HR and people management policies and practice which champion and embed the values
  • To contribute to the success of the Charity as a member of the Senior Management Team, modelling a culture of high support and high challenge

The successful applicant will have

  • Strong operational experience as applied to HR, including staff line management, budget management, and confidence in managing IT systems for HR administration.
  • Experience managing organisational change and developing culture within a values-led organisation.
  • Experience of implementing practices of subsidiarity within organisations – whereby authority is shared such that decisionmaking happens at the most appropriate level, and all those affected can contribute, especially beneficiaries.
  • Experience with volunteers, including setting and implementing volunteering strategies, and direct line management of volunteers.
  • Excellent knowledge of employment law, data protection law, EDI best practice, and HR best practice, with a commitment to consistently developing this knowledge.
  • Capable of influencing, motivating, and supporting colleagues throughout the Charity, demonstrating emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Ability to combine attention to detail with a broad perspective, with experience of using qualitative and quantitative methods to make strategic business cases and decisions, monitor outcomes, and create reports for senior colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure on several projects at the same time, to tight deadlines, maintaining confidentiality where necessary.

Lived experience of disadvantage (eg homelessness, poverty or trauma) would be welcomed.
